Welcome at St.JamesCollege, which is a well- known independent public school in Brighton, England, established in 1845. The college is a co-educational boarding school, what means, that boys as well as girls attend this school and live here.
The vast majority of the pupils attending this school comes from wealthy families – some arrogant, some stayed normal – despite the account balance of their parents.
Some students –and it’s pretty obvious who’s one of these “some students”- were happy to get a scholarship so they could attend this school, although their parents hadn’t enough money to pay the school fee.
The St.JamesCollege believes in the importance of the individual and so they abolished school uniforms a few years ago. The richer students loved that idea – finally they could show their wealth ( better that of their parents) not only with expensive accessories, but also with their designer clothes. The students with a scholarship now were easier to identify, because of their cheaper clothes and so there were two groups: the rich one and the poor one.
The College is not only known for his excellent education, but also for a wide range of extracurricular activities like sports, music and arts.
+ The Campus +
There are several houses on the school grounds:
The Campus is tremendous and envelops several hectare of land and also several buildings.
There are 4 halls of residence for the pupils, 2 for the girls and 2 for the boys. Furthermore there is the "Sir George Gilbert Scott building“, where you can find the classrooms, the assembly hall and the cafeteria , the “Sir Thomas Graham Jackson building” with the offices of the administration and the school doctor, the gym, a small chapel, and the library (John E. Owens Library).
At Kemp Hall the pupils can spend their spare time (playing tabletop football or billiards, lounges, and a room for partys etc. etc.).
There are 2 tennis courts, 2 football grounds, 1 playing field (typischer Sportplatz), 1 field for field hockey and one for basketball.
There’s also an riding stable (for the horses of the pupils), one indoor riding arena and two outside riding arenas.
